WORKING FOREMAN
FOR VOLUNTEERS ON CHURCH PROJECTS
This will be a contact person who knows the men of the
congregation, their work background and skills. This person will be
familiar with the men of the congregation, their willingness to help, and will
keep them informed of work site job orders that may possibly be done by
volunteers creating a direct saving to property owner.
When possible, this person will be skilled in some of the
areas and usually is the most active volunteer. Most volunteers need a
leader. They will have continual questions. You can almost never
just give them a task. You have to say "follow me" or "will you help me".
This person will be the direct contact with site foreman and
construction management. That person will correlate the volunteers and the
task the volunteers are to take on. Also, reviewing and accepting job site
work orders or sending them back to be done by subcontractors.
This person will attempt to obtain good workmanship by
volunteers. He will stop or cancel any workmanship that is not acceptable.
That right is also reserved by the site foreman and construction management.
Keeping in mind some volunteers are willing, yet not capable.
This person should have a full understanding when a group of
volunteers show up for a task. The main goal is bonding and fellowship.
Usually 20% will dig in and accomplish the task. The other 80% get in the
way of the workers.
It is recommended for many reasons group work days or work
events be after trades work has finished or on Saturday.
